Anyone can learn to do it when they are walked, step by step, through it. Learn it and you can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars on every eBook you self-publish.

Not only does a bad conversion create a bad experience with your book, but...

it makes you look like a bad author!

It's difficult enough to get to be known as an author, you don't need a lousy conversion messing up your book and destroying your efforts to build your market.

You'll have the same problem if you want a conversion to sell on your own website, or one to sell through smaller resellers without their own conversion software. You will need to either create your own conversions or have them done for you.

While there are a number of programs on the market that you can use to create conversions, if they don't have a clean document to start with, you can't get a good looking conversion.

You can hire a self publishing company to make a conversion for you that you can use on your own site, or through a small online retailer. You can also have the self-publishing company create a conversion for them to publish and sell for you. The prices that they advertise for this service are quite reasonable.

What is not clearly evident up front, however, is that you will either have to have a clean document for the conversion services to work with, or pay from $100 to $150 per hour for them to fix it so they can convert it. (This is usually covered under the terms like "additional formatting" or something very much like it.)

When you realize that the process of preparing a manuscript for conversion can take anywhere from 5 to 25 hours of work (sometimes even more) depending on the condition of your manuscript, you can imagine how important this missing step is for independent authors with limited budgets.
